JC Penney Facebook Store

Last week, J.C. Penney became a pioneer in the internet world, they became the first major retailer to place their store on Facebook. And they didn't just place some things on the 'book', they put the entire online store on there. Marketing experts are unsure whether this move is going to show any real profits, and many are against the idea of putting an online store on Facebook.

As of Wed, 8pm, 1,400,000 people like J.C. Penney page, less than 1 million like Macy's page and only 4,000 like Nordstrom. WOW, JC Penney is not the first department store to come to mind for most people, yet they're doing great in social media fans.

Some people have bashed J.C. Penney saying that it won't be worth their time and money, to just work on using Facebook to send more people to your actual site. Well, thats what it is doing. Let's talk about what a company like JC Penney can do with Facebook. You, a daily FB user, you come to your "Home Page" for FB, you have your "Top News" that is on the page automatically, then you have the option of choosing "Most Recent". That's FB today. Imagine this, you come to your home page on FB and its the exact same as before, but next to the "Most Recent" button, there's a "Business" button. You click this business button and a wall shows up of all your favorite business' that you've personally chosen to follow on FB. If you want, there can be 1 or 2 business', or if you really hate the idea of business on FB. However, you can also have as many business' on there as you want. These business' can update their fans with information about news, promotions, hirings, etc anything your mind can imagine. The beautiful thing about this, ITS NOT SPAM. The trend in the market is that everything is coming TO the consumer, the consumer has the power. Facebook is the perfect place to do this, consumers don't have to think about your brand everyday on their own, they just check their FB Business page if they feel like they have some extra money or if their bored waiting for friends to post status updates. The latter, which, to those of you who did not go through college with FB, happens to the young people of this world, all day long.

For those who think that companies should avoid getting too involved in Facebook, don't listen to them, over the next few years the internet will be dominated by this site. Look for our upcoming article about the future of Facebook next week.
